Health psychology

The impact of body and mind.

The mind and body are deeply connected, and our emotional well-being can influence how we experience and manage physical symptoms, pain, and illness. It can be difficult to live with a medical condition. Physical symptoms can take an emotional toll, contributing to stress, anxiety, frustration, and feelings of loss or isolation. These challenges often impact sense of self, daily activities, relationships, and overall quality of life.

Psychological support can help. Individuals learn to work with their bodies rather than feel at odds with them. Through evidence-based strategies, we help individuals manage stress, regulate the nervous system, reduce the impact of pain, and develop healthy responses to physical symptoms. By strengthening the mind-body connection, our goal is to help individuals feel more empowered in managing their physical health.

What is health psychology?

Health psychology looks at the relationship between the mind and the body and the way in which our thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and levels of stress impact our physical health and well-being. It understands that living with a medical condition and persistent pain goes beyond just dealing with physical symptoms. Using evidence-based practices, health psychology enables individuals to further develop the skills to improve their symptoms and daily functioning. By taking account of both the mind and the body, individuals can build resilience and lasting wellness.

What patients often ask us.

We understand that seeking psychological care can come with questions. Below, we’ve addressed some common questions about our practice and what to expect when getting started. If you need additional information, we’re happy to help. Please reach out to us.

Do you accept insurance?

Yes, we do. We bill insurance directly for you yet benefits vary depending on your plan and services rendered. We encourage you to contact our office before your appointment so we can help you explore your coverage and discuss any questions you might have.

Do I need a referral to arrange an appointment?

To help us provide the most appropriate care, we ask that you obtain a referral from your medical provider along with relevant medical history. If you have questions or would like to learn more about our services, please contact our office. We're happy to help you navigate the next steps.

How does telehealth work? Is it as effective as in-person care?

Telehealth is an effective option for many psychological services and offers added flexibility for individuals managing chronic pain, mobility issues, or recovering from surgery. It provides access to services without the added stress of travel.

Will my surgeon or referring physician receive the results of my evaluation?

With your written consent, we share our evaluation and recommendations with your surgeon or referring provider. This enables your medical team to get a better understanding of your needs and coordinate your care. We are committed to supporting a collaborative approach with your medical team.

Is the information I provide confidential?

Privacy is a key aspect of the care you receive. Your information is protected by applicable privacy laws, including HIPAA. Information is generally shared with your medical team only with your consent, except in circumstances where disclosure is permitted or required by law. Such exceptions could involve specific safety concerns or legal obligations. We can discuss confidentiality and answer any questions you may have before initiating services.
